Change is never easy, but necessary. The transition of going from what is into the unknown is a walk of faith. With each step certainty is gained, path becomes clearer. It has been almost a full cycle of seasons since the urge to grow and shift this business began. The organization itself was what I envisioned it to be. This time last year, I wasn't who I wanted to be as a leader of this organization. It lacked focus. I want the business included every aspect of myself as a scholar, artist, and strategist. The vision was too broad and the name, The Womanist Laboratory, was too limited. Things simply didn't fit. It felt clumsy. The Womanist Laboratory was a container for scholarship, consulting, and creativity. The Womanist Laboratory was limiting as the scholarship side felt foreign to the consulting side and created a level of dissonance that was irreconcilable.
There was a feeling of alienation between me and the work. There was a level of desperation to acquire clients in a way that didn't honor my spirit, the work, nor my clients. Transformation was necessary.
Farewell to the Womanist Laboratory, thank you for all what was accomplished and the growth that was inspired by you.
Over the past 20 year of doing this work the desire to positively change the world has grown stronger. The methods and modalities have improved over time. this work has been nothing short of transformative both internally and externally, a constant metamorphosis. This evolution applies to business. The Womanist Laboratory has gone through its own metamorphosis, it is now The Butterfly Effecta. Back in 2018, I began working as a consultant under the name of Butterfly Effects, yet I hesitated placed it aside and dug deeper into my scholarship. Where I created the Womanist Laboratory with the hopes of working with organization and training students to work for change. I resonated deeply with womanist theory and wanted to bring the theory in to space of praxis as a humanist scholar.

This past March, at the start of a new grow season, the Womanist Laboratory was fighting to live. I asked God what needs to change in order for this business to grow, what needed to shift within me and within the business. I prayed and reflected for three nights, had several conversations with my Dad. Then on the fourth day I woke up to the voice of Holy Spirit telling me to start with the outcome in mind by returning to Butterfly Effects. After some additional prayer and reflection, the name shifted into Butterfly Effecta. The name denotes the phenomenon of the ability of butterflies to shift weather patterns globally--suggesting the interconnectedness of all things and that small actions have large implications. Effecta is the accusative form of the past participle of "effectus" in Latin. Translating into meaning having been accomplished, having been produced., completed change. Starting with the outcome in mind. Here I am invoking the desired outcome prior to strategic development, planning, implementation, and evaluation. It's starting with consideration of the greater good and awareness that larger global connected to the small things. It's not simply about what is done but also how it's done. And that's what I want to keep in mind as we do this work: that every little thing we do has global implications, often unpredictable, even unmeasurable, but with prayer and intentionally the little things produce change for good. Starting with the right frame of mind together we can strategize, plan, implement, and evaluate (or in short execute) complete metamorphosis for good.
We must welcome change. The Butterfly Effect is in the business of transformation.
As a woman having engaged in this work for many years, a founder and CEO of a nonprofit consulting firm, I am open to what metamorphosis feels and looks like. It's scary. It's necessary. It's a faith walk. However, with prayer, intentionality, authenticity it will be for the greater good. Gracefully trusting that we can co=create a better experience for all life on this planet.
I want to encourage you to be open to the metamorphosis process in your life and work. You don't have to do alone. I could walk beside you. Together we can strategize, plan, implement, and evaluation what has been done, so with some level of control we can allow our small action to have positive global implications.
Join me in celebrating and introducing the Butterfly Effecta Company.
